Samantha Tumpach was arrested on November 28 and faced a felony charge of illegally copying the film. She had about 3-minutes of the movie recorded on her digital camera and stated that she was taping her sister’s birthday party and was not trying to record the movie. Chris Weitz was reported to have come to Tumpach’s defense stating there’s a difference between trying to protect copyright and prosecuting someone who did not mean to commit video piracy. Earlier today, Cook County prosecutors announced in court that they will not pursue charges against Tumpach. SOURCE: The Hollywood Reporter |

Weitz’ quotes put the film’s distributor, Summit Entertainment, in an uncomfortable PR spot. Even though it’s the theater chain — not the studio — pushing the charges against Tumpach, Weitz says he has reached out to Summit to get involved. So far, Summit has remained publicly silent. A short clip below of Peter Facinelli talking about how difficult it was shooting scenes with fake contacts. “It’s like looking through a pin-hole,” the actor, who plays Dr. Carlisle Cullen, tells “Extra” at a screening of “Everybody’s Fine” in NYC Thursday. Since the contacts affected the stars’ peripheral vision, Facinelli says the scenes were “awkward. (Video credit: ExtraTV) |

In a new interview with MTV, Taylor Lautner states that he’s embarrassed of the shirtless pictures of him promoting the upcoming movies. Check it out: Oddly enough, the thought of girls ogling shirtless photos of him embarrasses Taylor Lautner more than admitting his love of “The Notebook.” The “Twilight” star, who famously buffed up for his role as werewolf Jacob Black in “New Moon” and “Eclipse,” told BoxOffice.com that it’s “weird” when his family sees the topless pics taken to promote the upcoming films. “It’s embarrassing for me,” he said. “And I’m sure it’s awkward for all of them. I’m hoping that [I don't get teased by my family] because I’ll start blushing.” The 17-year-old has little shame, however, when it comes to his love of a certain chick flick. Asked what movie he’s embarrassed to admit to loving, he responded, ” ‘The Notebook.’ I don’t think I should be embarrassed to admit it though — it’s a great movie,” he said. “I’m not embarrassed. I’m saying it proudly.” Lautner said he would love to have a career in which he could do both action films and romantic comedies, and he’s well on that path with his role opposite Taylor Swift in “Valentine’s Day.” “I was so glad I got to do ['Valentine's Day'] before I went back and filmed ‘Eclipse,’ ” he told the site. “Working with [director] Garry Marshall — that’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing. It was a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to see it when it comes out in February.” As for the future of the “Twilight” franchise, Lautner isn’t sure about how he’ll tackle the tricky developments in Jacob’s life that happen in the fourth book, “Breaking Dawn.” “I’m sure it would be different. It was definitely a surprise for me when I read the book,” he said. “But we’re just trying to take it one movie at a time, and nothing’s been confirmed yet on the fourth, so we’re just staying focused on ‘Eclipse’ at the moment.” SOURCE: VH1 |

“In regards to the situation with Samantha Tumpach, we applaud Muvico for upholding the zero tolerance policy on piracy when the incident occurred at their theater in Rosemont , IL . The pirating of films is a very serious issue and we all need to remain vigilant to protect the art of film and the myriad of businesses that the film industry supports. We believe that the attention that this incident has drawn, has served as a reminder to us all that any form of film piracy, or perceived piracy, will be treated with the utmost seriousness. Summit is pleased that all charges against Ms. Tumpach have been dropped and appreciate the efforts of the police and the prosecutors in this outcome.”
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the charges have been dropped against a 22-year-old Chicago woman accused of videotaping part of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” at a movie theater.
A Chicago woman who was caught using a digital recording device during a screening of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” is facing some prison time? Samantha Tumpach, 22, claims she was merely filming scenes at a Chicago-area Muvico Theater for her sister’s 29th birthday party. Now, after being arrested and charged with a rarely invoked felony designed to prevent movie bootlegging, Tumpach has attracted an ally in her defense. “New Moon” director Chris Weitz tells the Chicago Sun-Times that “the case seems to me terribly unfair and I would like to do what I can to address this.”
